Karl Frederick Steinmayer

Sailor, Craftsman, Poet, Musician,
Loving and Beloved Son, Brother, Husband, and Father.

17 May 1957 - 3 0ctober 2003

Karl as squad member at Mystic Seaport. (Picture is slightly fuzzy because the original is a quasi-3D thing.

Our association with Mystic Seaport goes way back.

Karl's on the left. This must have been taken about 1962.

Brothers were important. Here, Bill, Otto, and Karl in 1996.

Harp-playing was important. Witness the rapture!

Family was supremely important to Karl.

Karl, Lynn, Lily, and Thor. Their last photo together. Taken by me, Otto, on Sunday, 29 September 2002. We had just brought the concrete lions back from the garden-store.

To All Friends of Karl

Not yet a year after Karl's death, I remain in mourning. Any page I try to create now to celebrate Karl's memory is going to be sad. I would much rather dwell on all the bright memories I have, as would you, and as Karl wishes. In time, this page will evolve into just such a portrait of Karl. Do give me time.

In the future I plan to publish (in book form) Karl's many and various literary works, and other of his creations.

I have hundreds of photos of Karl, as he showed himself in his different modes. Some of these will be of interest to his friends, and they will be posted at a proper date. I wish to invite anyone who knew Karl to be in touch with me and to contribute anything that he or she feels would serve Karl's fame, by preserving an account of his actions or words, or by adding a chip, so to speak, to the mosaic portrait of his character. I certainly did not know him completely; I didn't have a monopoly of his affections, nor do I have now a monopoly of his memory. Photos are welcome.

Please do write me, Otto Steinmayer.
