Jaap Schröder Discography

Partially revised and updated, 6 October 2015.

13 November 2007

For the past few months, Mr. Schröder and I have been working on a revised, more complete, and more indexed version of his discography.  At the present date I believe it is well enough arranged to be posted on the net.

We have made a change of approach.  The main discography page is now organized by date of publication.  A separate page lists composers and works recorded.  Clicking on the blue underlined number to the right of the composer/work entry will bring the reader to the relevant listing, "catalog card," on the Main or Chronology page.  Please use your browser's "back" button to reurn to the Composer page.

The number which heads each "catalog card" originally designated the the place of the recording in the "shelf-list," Mr. Schröder's own discography which he compiled himself on real paper cards.  These numbers have been retained as permanent designations of a particular recording.

Comments within square brackets are my comments and additions.

Besides the Composer page, I shall in future attach pages where Mr. Schröder's recordings are sorted by Ensemble, and by Recording label.

I would be most grateful if users of this Discography report to me any typos, broken or faulty links, and any other problems, and omissions they may note.

NOTE:  I have endeavored to present these pages in Unicode.  Nonetheless, as I check them, I see that my browser does not display diacritics properly.  I shall try to correct this.

Composer:
Bach, J. S. 1685-1750
Label: EMI C193-24784/85
Audio type: [analog]
Media: 2 LPs
Publication Date: 1972? 1973?
Title/Contents: Six sonatas for harpsichord and violin
Artist: Anneke Uittenbosch, harpsichord; Jaap Schröder, violin
Instrument: violin, Januarius Gagliano, circa 1720
Recording location: n.a.
Recording date: n.a.
Other: Also released on CBS label.

Note: Previously I had dated this recording to 1971. Some time past I received the following communication from Mr. Jacobus van Dijk, who makes corrections and additions to this entry:
"I have . . .  a small addition to make to the entry  on the 2 LP set of the Bach Sonatas for Harpsichord and violin, BWV 1014–1019.
The correct cat. no. is  EMI  HMV  5C 193-24 784/85.
The recording date is not indicated, but it can be inferred from the sleeve texts that it was after Anneke Uittenbosch's recording debut, a Sweelinck recital (released on HMV 5C 065-24 586), which took place in the autumn of 1972. The sleeve text also mentions that Mr Schröder was going on tour with his Quartetto Esterhazy to the USA in Oct.-Nov. 1974. The recording date must therefore have been between these two dates, most likely at the end of 1972 or in 1973. The release date is January 1974 (not 'circa 1971'); it was reviewed in the January 1974 issue of the Dutch magazine Luister and I myself acquired my copy early in 1974.
I do not know if you want to list other instruments than Mr Schröder's violin, but if so, Mrs Uittenbosch is playing a harpsichord by Ketil Haugsand after J.D. Dulcken."

Supplementary Note: In a lecture given at Davenport College, Yale University, the evening of 7 October 2015, Mr. Schröder stated that this was his first recording with a baroque instrument.
